We believe we have the most comfortable and best fitting, supportive maternity bras on the market: Our range is based on long experience and recommendations from customers in Harwayes stores over many years.
Finding the right bra for your pregnancy
Your breasts will grow and increase in sensitivity, and your rib cage will expand up until about 1 month before your due date, making it advisable to measure yourself frequently through your pregnancy.
All of our maternity/nursing bras are extremely suitable for use throughout your pregnancy as they are not underwired, but instead carefully constructed to give maximum support and comfort.
So whether or not you intend to breastfeed later on, we suggest buying maternity/nursing bras – the drop cup clips are really very discreet, and actually useful if your breasts do start leaking late in pregnancy meaning you can quickly add breastpads if needed.
When fitting a bra early in pregnancy remember:
- fit on the tightest eye position to allow the bra to “grow” with you.
- avoid underwires as these may become uncomfortable and press into the delicate breast tissues.
- ensure that the breast is well supported within the cup.
Finding the right nursing bras
Whether you are new to breast feeding or an old hand, the choice of nursing bras and tops can seem a little overwhelming, not to mention expensive if feeding doesn’t work out for you!
Luckily all of our maternity bras come with a drop cup, so we recommend buying bras towards the end of your pregnancy (about 3 – 4 weeks before your due date: this is where shopping online comes into its own!) and these should see you through the first few weeks or months of feeding.
- Fit the bra on the loosest eye to allow for the bra to be tightened after baby is born, when your rib cage will begin to retract.
- Allow some extra room in the cup, for when the milk comes in .
- make sure you are comfortable with the opening mechanism and that you can manage it easily with one hand.
- Consider a sleep bra for comfortable leak-free nights.
